Cave Codices are items that can be obtained by completing the research of a Cave Tablet in a Spelunkery Table. Like cave tablets, they have a variant for each cave biome added by Alex's Caves, however the biome is visible in the item's tooltip since it has been translated.

Obtaining

Researching

The Cave Codex is obtained through completing the minigame with the Spelunkery Table (see: Guides/Spelunkery Table Research). By translating a Cave Tablet and supplying paper, the player can receive a codex pertaining to the biome of the tablet used.

Completing the minigame on a Spelunkery Table will reward the player with a Cave Codex matching the Cave Tablet used
The Primordial Caves biome section with all non-secret chapters unlocked.

Usage

Crafting ingredient

The Cave Codex can be used with 8 paper in a crafting grid to create a Cave Biome Map that matches the codex.

Compendium unlocking

Cave Codices can be used to unlock information in the Cave Compendium pertaining to the biome of the codex by using them. Four of the same codices are needed to unlock all chapters of a biome in the sequential order of:

  1. Introduction
  2. Resources
  3. Inhabitants
  4. Utilities

After four of the same codices have been used, they will stop being accepted as there is no more information about their matching biomes needed to be unlocked.

Secret unlocking

If the Cave Codex pertains to either the Primordial Caves or Toxic Caves, an extra codex can be used on top of the previous four to unlock secret information about the corresponding biomes.

This secret information isn't categorized into its own chapter; rather, it adds more information to previously unlocked chapters.
