Uranium Shards are small pieces of Uranium that can be obtained from smelting Unrefined Waste. Uranium Shards are radioactive, and simply having enough of them in the player's inventory can inflict the Irradiated effect for 1:30 seconds.

Smelting
Unrefined Waste can be smelted into Uranium Shards, making Uranium renewable. Note that Unrefined Waste takes only 100 ticks (5 seconds) to smelt.

Mob loot
Although very unlikely to happen, a Tremorzilla will drop 10-20 Uranium Shards upon death. Looting can increase the maximum amount by up to 3 per level, with a maximum of 29 Uranium Shards with Looting III.
