Raygun
A Raygun is a futuristic ranged weapon that utilizes a continuous beam of energy to hurt any mobs in its way.
Obtaining
Crafting
The Raygun notably needs both a Fissile Core and two Uranium Rods, which either are or made from highly radioactive items.

Usage
Shooting
Pressing and holding right-click while wielding a Raygun will cause it to fire a continuous green beam of radioactive energy. This beam of energy will reach 25 blocks in distance, but will be obstructed by any blocks in its path - including blocks that the player can normally walk through. If the beam of energy comes into contact with any mob or placeable entity besides Tremorzilla, it will be deal 1.5 × 0.75 damage every 0.15 seconds and inflict Irradiated I for 40 seconds, unless the mob has a natural immunity to Irradiated or any status effects. The mobs or entities that come into contact with the beam first will obstruct its damage, but not the beam itself.
If the energy beam hits a block, it will leave behind an aesthetic burn mark that will soon dissipate. If it hits a mob or entity, it will leave the same temporary burn mark on the ground underneath the mob.
Reloading
While shooting a Raygun, a flashing green and white bar similar to the durability meter will overlay the item sprite in the inventory. This bar will represent how much charge the Raygun has left before needing to be reloaded. The Raygun's remaining charge (out of 1000) will also appear in the item's tooltip, even if the player has Advanced Tooltips disabled.
The charge meter will deplete once every 0.1 seconds after the Raygun has been shooting its beam for 0.75 seconds. Once the charge meter reaches 0, the Raygun will be unable to continue firing its energy beam and become unusable. When in this state, attempting to use the Raygun while having a Uranium Rod in your inventory will reload it, resetting the charge meter back to 1000. If in Creative Mode, the player can reload a Raygun without needing a Uranium Rod in their inventory.
Enchantments
All weapons and tools added by Alex's Caves have unique enchantments that exclusively only apply for them. Unlike regular enchantments, these ones by default (without changing config settings) do not increase the pool of enchantments you can receive from any loot tables, and instead can only be obtained from enchanting the exclusive item they apply to in an Enchanting Table.
The Raygun has four exclusive enchantments.
Energy Efficiency
Common enchantment that decreases frequency of charge usage, with bigger decrease per level. Has levels from I-III.
Solar
Common enchantment that slowly recharges Raygun when held during daylight and having access to the sky. Does not have any higher level besides I.
X-Ray
Common enchantment that allows beam of energy to bypass through obstructive blocks, however still does not let damage pierce through enemies. Does not have any higher level besides I. Incompatible with Gamma Ray enchantment.
Gamma Ray
Rare enchantment that increases damage done by energy beam from 1.5 × 0.75 to 2
damage, and inflicts Irradiated V for 40 seconds. Also completely switches the color scheme of the energy beam and Raygun to a bright blue instead of an irradiated green. Does not have any higher level besides I. Incompatible with X-Ray enchantment.
History
1.0.0 | Introduced. |

Trivia
- The Gamma Ray enchantment turning the Raygun and energy beam it shoots to blue is supposed to represent Cherenkov radiation, a distinct type of electromagnetic radiation with a characteristic blue glow.
- Rayguns were meant to have a 2D sprite in the inventory similarly to the Limestone Spear, Extinction Spear, and Trident. It would soon be decided to be unused for an unknown reason.
- Due to the Raygun's damage being increased in a later version, the Cave Compendium is now inaccurate about how much damage a Raygun actually does.
