Tremorsaurus are rare large hostile mobs found in the Primordial Caves. They are mighty predators that can emit a deafening roar, scaring off most mobs around them.

Cave Compendium Entry

"The Tremorsaurus is the king of all dinosaurs in the Primordial Caves, where it regularly hunts large prey such as Grottoceratops and Relicheirus. The presence of one of these monstrous dinosaurs is indicated by the very earth shaking for every footstep it takes. Water in lakes and cauldrons will also ripple in response. When hunting, the Tremorsaurus will unleash its roar, which will shake every nearby creature and send most of them running. Tremorsaurus can use its deadly bite force to quickly dispatch prey, but can also pick up smaller prey in its jaws and violently shake them for even more damage. Despite its hostile personality, even the Tremorsaurus can be tamed through a difficult process. It must be repeatedly hit with a Primitive Club in order to stun the beast, then fed Serene Salad right afterwards. This will wake it up and make it angry, but after enough attempts the Tremorsaurus will be tamed. Tamed Tremorsaurus can be made to follow, stay or wander, and can also be ridden. When ridden, they are not quick, yet will attack anything aimed at by their rider. A mounted Tremorsaurus can also be made to occasionally roar, which can force entire crowds of enemies to flee in fear. They can be bred once tamed by feeding them Dinosaur Chops, and will lay a single egg. Baby Tremorsaurus that hatch nearby will imprint on their parent's owners. If slain, a Tremorsaurus will drop some of its meat in the form of Dinosaur Chops, along with some Heavy Bones..."

Spawning

Tremorsaurus can spawn anywhere in the Primordial Caves.

Behavior

Tremorsaurus will attack any Subterranodons, Grottoceratops, or Relicheirus within a 32-block radius, in addition to any players that stay within 8 blocks of them. Any player or mob that tramples a Tremorsaurus' egg by by standing or jumping on it will also provoke all Tremorsaurus within a 32-block radius - interestingly enough, however, breaking the egg via mining it will not trigger this reaction. When idle, Tremorsaurus will aimlessly wander around, making loud thumping noises, shaking the screen for all players on the ground within 20 blocks of them, and causing any sources or cauldrons of water within 8 blocks to ripple as they walk - occasionally, they may growl or sniff the air. Due to their size, they take 90% less knockback and can step up one full block without having to jump. Similarly to horses, Tremorsaurus will passively regenerate health.

When attacking, a Tremorsaurus will run towards its target, usually biting at them upon reaching them; if its target is 2 blocks in height or less, it may occasionally grab them in its jaws and shake them for 2 seconds before throwing them sideways, dealing 5♥♥♥ damage every half a second.

Tremorsaurus will follow any player that holds out Dinosaur Chops within a 6 block radius. As soon as the player puts away the Dinosaur Chops, however, they will attack.

As dinosaurs, Tremorsaurus are able to stand on dinosaur eggs without trampling them.

Since they are classified as creatures rather than monsters, Tremorsaurus will persist on Peaceful difficulty. However, they will never attack players.

Roaring

Tremorsaurus will occasionally lower their heads to roar after a minimum of 10 seconds. Any mob within 30 blocks of a Tremorsaurus - with the exception of the Luxtructosaurus ands Tremorzilla in addition to other Tremorsaurus - will quickly run away from it for 1.5 seconds when it roars; a Tremorsaurus' roar will also cause the screen to shake for all players on the ground within 20 blocks of it, in addition to causing any sources or cauldrons of water within 7 blocks to ripple. Tremorsaurus will roar upon entering their hostile state if they have not done so less than 10 seconds beforehand.

Taming

If a Tremorsaurus gets stunned by a hit from a Primitive Club, feeding it a Serene Salad will automatically remove the effect - performing this procedure 3-8 times will tame it. Once a Tremorsaurus is tamed, sneaking while interacting with it causes it to cycle between one of the following behaviors:

  • Wander: The Tremorsaurus aimlessly wanders about. This is its default behavior upon being tamed, so commanding it to switch to other behaviors is ideal for preventing it from wandering off.
  • Stay: The Tremorsaurus sits down and stays in place.
  • Follow: The Tremorsaurus follows its owner, teleporting to them if they are too far away.

By interacting with a tamed Tremorsaurus without sneaking, the player can mount it. Once mounted, it can be controlled by WASD controls as well as the mouse, and can be dismounted with the left Shift key; punching also causes it to use a bite or grab attack. As well as this, a special meter near the bottom center of the screen will quickly fill up. Once the meter is full, pressing G will cause the Tremorsaurus to roar, inflicting Weakness on any susceptible mobs within 30 blocks of it for 10 seconds in addition to causing them to quickly run away; as well as this, the meter will fully deplete.

Similarly to wolves, tamed Tremorsaurus that have not been ordered to stay will attack players or mobs that their owner attacks, or those that damage their owner unless the target has the same owner; as well as this, they will not attack Ghasts or tamed animals, but they will attack Creepers if their owner commands them to. Similarly to wild Tremorsaurus, tamed Tremorsaurus will roar before attacking if they have not done so less than 10 seconds beforehand, inflicting Weakness on any nearby mobs and causing them to quickly run away; as well as this, they can attack regularly while mounted in addition to doing so on command.

Breeding

Two tamed Tremorsaurus can be bred with raw or cooked Dinosaur Chops. After breeding, one of the Tremorsaurus will seek out dirt and start vigorously digging at it for a few seconds before laying an egg and replacing the dirt block under it with a Fern Thatch. Similarly to turtle eggs, Tremorsaurus eggs will drop as an item when mined using any tool enchanted with Silk Touch, otherwise breaking and not dropping anything - as well as this, they can be trampled. If on any block except ice, amber, or Amber Monoliths, they will crack every so often, hatching into Tremorsaurus hatchlings upon cracking 3 times - this process usually takes 8-10 days, but will take 4-5 if the eggs are on a Fern Thatch. If a player is within 10 blocks of the egg when it hatches, the hatchling will automatically become tamed towards them. It takes 1 day for a Tremorsaurus hatchling to reach adulthood.

After breeding once, Tremorsaurus will be unable to breed again for 5 minutes.

Easter Eggs

Dancing

Tremorsaurus will dance if they are within 5 blocks of a jukebox playing music. Like other dinosaurs, they will continue to dance as long as the music disc remains in the jukebox and the music is still ongoing - unlike other dinosaurs, however, they will equip sunglasses for as long as they are dancing. While dancing, they will stay in place, not reacting to players or other mobs in any capacity.

Naming

Naming a Tremorsaurus "princess" retextures it to have a pink and magenta color scheme, light blue eyes with black pupils, and black claws.

Amber Curiosity

Using an Amber Curiosity on a Tremorsaurus causes it to have a special "retro" texture with brown skin, deep brown stripes on its back and hips, deep brown osteoderms, deep red eyes, and white claws. This is a reference to the Tyrannosaurus from Fossils and Archaeology, a popular dinosaur mod that first released in July 2011 and received continuous updates over the next year. After its initial death, a revival mod was first released in February 2013, and continues to be updated today - Alexthe666, the main coder of Alex's Caves, had previously worked on this revival for 4 years, technically making it one of his older coding projects.

Tectonic Shard

Using a Tectonic Shard on a Tremorsaurus causes it to have a special "eruption" texture with black skin, a brown underbelly with stripes on its neck, body, and tail, a red head, osteoderms, arms, and feet, black eyes with shining yellow pupils, a blue mouth, serrated teeth, and a scar running across the left side of its face.

History

1.0.0 Introduced.
1.0.4 Baby Tremorsaurus can no longer use grab attacks.
1.0.6 Fixed a bug where tamed Tremorsaurus would attack other tamed mobs on command or affect their owner's other pets with their roars.
No longer grabs mobs taller than 2 blocks.
1.1.0 Now uses a multithreaded pathfinding system for better TPS usage.
Now has a new texture variant unlocked via Tectonic Shards.
1.1.2 Fixed a bug where it would randomly teleport while moving.
Fixed a bug where it would occasionally launch players high into the air with its grab attack.

Trivia

  • Tremorsaurus are classified as "cave creatures" - they are functionally very similar to creatures, but can only spawn underground.
  • Tremorsaurus are one of the few mobs in the mod to be animated with inverse kinematics - their legs will shift upwards or downwards to appear as if they are always touching a block.
  • Tremorsaurus were one of the first mobs conceptualized for Alex's Caves.
  • The Tremorsaurus' ability to cause water around them to ripple with their footsteps is a reference to the famous Tyrannosaurus escape scene from Jurassic Park, which starts with 2 cups of water rippling in response to the dinosaur's distant footsteps.
  • Tremorsaurus were one of the first mobs in Alex's Caves to receive custom sounds.
    • Tremorsaurus will not make sound when attacking targets unless they successfully hit them.
