Usage

Spawning

When placed, an Amber Monolith will have a miniature version of a random mob rotating inside of it. This mob varies depending on the biome the Amber Monolith is placed in, and can even include modded mobs.

As time passes, the mob inside the Amber Monolith will slowly start rotating faster and faster, until the Monolith spawns the mob (or several instances of the mob) with a burst of yellow particles.

Atlatitan spawning

When the Luxtructosaurus has been slain for the first time, all Amber Monoliths in that set of Primordial Caves will begin spawning Atlatitans for the next day. This is accompanied by a message in yellow saying, "New forms are taking shape within Amber Monoliths..."

Dinosaur Eggs

Dinosaur Eggs placed atop Amber Monoliths will never hatch. Amber Monoliths are one of only five blocks that have this property, the others being Amber and all three types of Ice.

Bugs

  • Amber Monoliths will sometimes generate in unexpected places, such as inside of solid rock. These Amber Monoliths will never be able to spawn their contained mob unless they are dug up.
  • Very rarely, Atlatitan may appear in Amber Monoliths in the Primordial Caves even if the Luxtructosaurus has not been defeated yet. These Atlatitans will never spawn, effectively disabling the Monolith.
  • Sometimes the body parts of modded mobs will clip through Amber Monoliths.
  • Sometimes the base of an Amber Monolith will z-fight with the block underneath the Monolith.

Trivia

  • Amber Monoliths emit a very weak light level of 5.
  • In certain biomes (e.g. Dripstone Caves), it is possible to have an Amber Monolith without a contained mob.
