Ferrouslime

Ferrouslimes are common flying hostile mobs found in the Magnetic Caves. They can only move about in fixed patterns, but they can merge with each other to become stronger.

Cave Compendium Entry

"What first appears to be an innocuous slime in the Magnetic Caves is actually a Ferrouslime - a variant of slime that has adapted to this biome's natural ferromagnetic properties. Due to this, the Ferrouslime is able to levitate to get around - although it can only move in straight lines on the cardinal axis. Unlike other slimes that simply split when slain, the Ferrouslime is able to merge with other Ferrouslimes in order to grow in size in [sic] strength. The more heads inside the Ferrouslime, the harder it will be to defeat. Once slain, Ferrouslime will split into smaller versions of themselves. They will also drop a Ferrouslimeball at the smallest size..."

Spawning

Ferrouslimes can spawn anywhere in the Magnetic Caves in groups of 1-2.

Behavior

Ferrouslimes will attack any player within a 16-block radius, extending ferrofluid spikes from their cytoplasm to deal melee damage once they come close enough - they do not attack any other mob without provocation. Unlike other airborne mobs, they can only move along the X, Y, and Z axes, and will leave faint trails of black particles as they fly.

Ferrouslimes are immune to the Magnetizing effect.

Splitting and merging

Similarly to standard slimes and Magma Cubes, Ferrouslimes come in different sizes, with larger Ferrouslimes spawning 2 smaller Ferrouslimes upon death. However, unlike standard Slimes, Ferrouslimes are capable of merging with each other in order to grow larger and stronger. The strength of a Ferrouslime depends on how many heads are inside its cytoplasm, with each head adding 10♥♥♥♥♥ health and 2♥ damage - there is no cap for how many heads a Ferrouslime can have, and Ferrouslimes that already have many heads can continue to merge with others.

After it merges once, a Ferrouslime will become unable to merge again for 30 seconds; in addition to this, if a Ferrouslime dies, the 2 smaller Ferrouslimes from the resulting split will be unable to merge for 1 minute. If two Ferrouslimes that are immediately able to merge are near each other, one will fly towards the other and immediately do so.

History

1.0.0 Introduced.
1.1.0 Now uses a multithreaded pathfinding system for better TPS usage.
1.1.2 Fixed a bug where it would randomly teleport while moving.

Trivia

  • Ferrouslimes were the 4th mob to be added to the Magnetic Caves, being coded in after the first 6 mobs of the Primordial Caves were added.
    • Ferrouslimes used to be referred to as Ferroslimes - however, their name was changed mid-development (presumably to flow better).
