Relicheirus are rare large neutral mobs found in the Primordial Caves. They are omnivores that can be aroused into feverishly toppling trees with Primordial Soup.

Cave Compendium Entry

"The Relicheirus is a massive, neutral omnivorous dinosaur uncommonly found browsing the pewen trees of the Primordial Caves. This feathery dinosaur is immensely strong, and can deal a lot of damage with its dagger-like claws. They will nibble at any tree leaves within the range of their long necks, and will reach down into pools to gobble up any Trilocaris they can find. One can utilize the natural strength of this dinosaur by feeding it a Primordial Soup, which will energize it to the point of knocking down almost any nearby tree it can find, all at once. Relicheirus can be bred with a Tree Star, and will produce a single large egg afterwards. When slain, a Relicheirus will drop many feathers, a few Dinosaur Chops, and some Heavy Bones."

Spawning

Relicheirus can spawn anywhere in the Primordial Caves.

Behavior

Relicheirus will aimlessly wander around, occasionally grunting, shaking their heads, or raising their arms off the ground to scratch themselves. Due to their size, they can step up one full block without having to jump. Similarly to horses, Relicheirus will passively regenerate health.

Relicheirus will seek out any Trilocaris within a 16-block radius - once they get within 9 blocks of a Trilocaris, they will briefly crouch down to grab it in their beaks before crunching them down, instantly killing them. In addition to this, they will also seek out and chew on any leaves or Archaic Vines 3-7 blocks off the ground within a 6-block radius after a minimum of 11 seconds - they will not destroy any vegetation they chew on, however.

Relicheirus will follow any player that holds out Tree Stars within a 6-block radius.

If fed a Primordial Soup, a Relicheirus will start seeking out and pushing down any trees within a 6-block radius for 1 minute, with the bowl being returned to the player empty. Relicheirus can only push down trees consisting of 300 blocks and spreading out over a radius of 12 blocks at maximum, with any larger trees being partially destroyed instead.

Relicheirus will retaliate against players or mobs that hit them, swiping at them with their claws once they come close enough; once provoked, they will remain hostile until their target dies or exits their detection range. In addition to this, any player or mob that tramples a Relicheirus' egg by standing or jumping on it will provoke all Relicheirus within a 16-block radius - interestingly enough, however, breaking the egg via mining it will not trigger this reaction.

As dinosaurs, Relicheirus are able to stand on dinosaur eggs without trampling them.

Breeding

Two Relicheirus can be bred with Tree Stars. After breeding, one of the Relicheirus will seek out dirt and start vigorously digging at it for a few seconds before laying an egg and replacing the dirt block under it with a Fern Thatch. Similarly to turtle eggs, Relicheirus eggs will drop as an item when mined using any tool enchanted with Silk Touch, otherwise breaking and not dropping anything - as well as this, they can be trampled. If on any block except ice, amber, or Amber Monoliths, they will crack every so often, hatching into Relicheirus hatchlings upon cracking 3 times - this process usually takes 8-10 days, but will take 4-5 if the eggs are on a Fern Thatch. It takes 1 day for a Relicheirus hatchling to reach adulthood.

After breeding once, Relicheirus will be unable to breed again for 5 minutes.

Easter Eggs

Dancing

Relicheirus will dance if they are within 5 blocks of a jukebox playing music - they will continue to dance as long as the music disc remains in the jukebox and the music is still ongoing. While dancing, they will stay in place, seemingly not reacting to players or other mobs - however, they will still attack targets that approach them if provoked.

Amber Curiosity

Using an Amber Curiosity on a Relicheirus causes it to have a special "retro" texture with orange skin, brown feathers, light brown wings, a white tail fan, and a black beak tip and claws. This is a reference to the dodo from Fossils and Archaeology Revival, a revival version of a popular dinosaur mod that first released in July 2011. The dodo was first designed by Dragonith and was initially intended for the original mod - however, it was first added in the revival, where it gained enough popularity to become the unofficial mascot of the mod. Alexthe666, the main coder of Alex's Caves, had previously worked on Fossils and Archaeology Revival for 4 years, technically making it one of his older coding projects.

Tectonic Shard

Using an Tectonic Shard on a Relicheirus causes it to have a special "eruption" texture with light brown skin, teal feathers, reddish-brown stripes on its back and hips in addition to longer, downwards-curving stripes on its face, beige eyes, a dark brown beak and claws, and a jade-colored mouth.

History

1.0.0 Introduced.
1.1.0 Now uses a multithreaded pathfinding system for better TPS usage.
Now has a new texture variant unlocked via Tectonic Shards.
1.1.2 Fixed a bug where it would randomly teleport while moving.

Trivia

  • Relicheirus are classified as "cave creatures" - they are functionally very similar to creatures, but can only spawn underground.
  • Relicheirus are one of the few mobs in the mod to be animated with inverse kinematics - their legs will shift upwards or downwards to appear as if they are always touching a block.
