Deep One Knight

Deep One Knights are common neutral aquatic mobs found in the Abyssal Chasm. They are stronger Deep Ones that carry tridents or Ortholances, which they use in combat.

Cave Compendium Entry

"The Deep One Knight is an even stronger species of Deep One. Like the other Deep Ones, they all share the same society and opinion of outsiders, and their approval and disapproval is all gained in the same way. Deep One Knights usually carry with them a trident or Orthrolance [sic], which they will use as a weapon during melee combat with opponents. Exchanging items is done in the same manner as with other Deep One species, except that Deep One Knights offer different items, usually those revolving around melee combat. This includes their signature Orthrolance [sic], along with tridents, armor, prismarine and even a Magic Conch..."

Spawning

Deep One Knights can spawn anywhere in the Abyssal Chasm.

Behavior

Deep One Knights will freely swim about in a random fashion, occasionally diving to the bottom of the water to walk around. They are usually 2.5 blocks tall and 1.15 blocks wide, but switch to a height of 1.3 blocks and width of 1.2 blocks when swimming. They can also leave the water and walk around on land, although they will stay in place if not interacting with players or other mobs.

Should a player or another mob hit a Deep One Knight, it and all other Deep One Knights within a 10-block radius will retaliate against them, as will any nearby Deep Ones and Deep One Mages; once provoked, they will remain hostile until their target dies or exits their detection range. When attacking, they will chase their target while bellowing angrily, swinging at them or quickly biting at them upon reaching them. If equipped with a trident and within 34 blocks of its target, a Deep One Knight will throw it at them - upon doing this, it will lose the trident, and will walk towards it before picking it back up with its claws. Any submarines that are targeted by Deep One Knights within a 16-block radius will start emitting sonar pings while causing their control panel to pulse.

Resistances and weaknesses

As inhabitants of the Abyssal Chasm, Deep One Knights do not sink in muck.

As aquatic mobs, Deep One Knights take extra damage from the Impaling enchantment.

Bartering

Players are capable of bartering with Deep One Knights via an Abyssal Altar. If a player puts a Pearl or Heart of the Sea on an Abyssal Altar, all Deep One Knights within a 64-block radius will move towards it - upon reaching the Abyssal Altar, a Deep One Knight will grab the offering off of it and inspect it for 2.5 seconds while murmuring excitedly before placing an item of their own, activating it.

Below is a list of items that Deep One Knights can give when bartering.

Reputation

Main article: Deep One

Deep One Knights will react to players depending on their reputation. Initially, the player will have a reputation of 0, but it can change as a result of various actions they take, ranging from -100 to 100.

Summoning

Using a Magic Conch summons 2 Deep One Knights, which rise from the ground with a large splash of water. Summoned Deep One Knights will always be helpful towards the player who summoned them, regardless of their reputation - however, the summoner can still cause their reputation to decrease by attacking a summoned Deep One Knight. After a minute, they will sink back into the ground with a large splash of water and despawn.

Easter Eggs

Naming a Deep One Knight any name that contains "noon" or "stinkyfish" retextures it to have a blue and white color scheme, dark blue speckles on its body, full, rounded fins, an upturned face with large, dull eyes and a wide frown in place of a jaw, blocky eye crests, and short spines on its head, arms, and torso. This is a reference to Noonyeyz, the main texture artist and art director of Alex's Caves.
