Cave Compendium Entry

"Gossamer Worms are large polychaete worms found swimming around the waters of the Abyssal Chasm. These drifting glowing worms are a favorite treat of the Hullbreaker. Gossamer Worms can be captured with a bucket of water. If slain, they can drop Bioluminessence, the source of their blue glow..."

Behavior

Gossamer worms will slowly swim about in a random fashion. If attacked by a player or another mob, they will flee from their attacker for 2 seconds.

Gossamer worms cannot survive outside of water. If outside of water, they will flop around in an attempt to jump back in, taking 2♥ suffocation damage every second after 15 seconds.

Players can pick up gossamer worms with a water bucket, giving them a bucket of gossamer worm. Gossamer worms placed with buckets do not despawn naturally. When a bucket of gossamer worm is used against a block, it empties the bucket, placing water with that gossamer worm swimming in it.

As inhabitants of the Abyssal Chasm, gossamer worms do not sink in muck.

Trivia

  • Gossamer worms are classified as "deep sea creatures" - they are functionally very similar to underground aquatic animals like the Glow Squid, but can only spawn in the Abyssal Chasm.
  • Gossamer worms use similar idle and death noises to Deep One Mages, albeit pitched down.
