Sea Pig

Sea pigs are common bucketable passive mobs found in the Abyssal Chasm. They can produce Pearls and Marine Snow when fed.

Cave Compendium Entry

"Sea Pigs are gelatinous invertebrates found on the sea floor within the Abyssal Chasm. Slowly trudging along on their many legs, they sift through the Muck to look for anything edible. Sea Pigs can drop themselves if they die, and can be eaten, although their flesh is poisonous. They can be captured with a Bucket of Water. If fed Muck, a clay ball or mud, the Sea Pig will begin to digest the item. They may produce a decent amount of muck or clay during this, but can also return bone meal, Sea Glass Shards, Pearls and even Marine Snow..."

Spawning

Sea pigs spawn above muck blocks underwater in the Abyssal Chasm in groups of 3-4.

Behavior

Sea pigs will slowly crawl across the seafloor in a random fashion. They can climb up non-magma solid blocks in their way, similarly to spiders.

Sea pigs can be fed a clay ball, mud, or muck. This causes the sea pig to suck up its food before leaving muck, Pearls, or Marine Snow.

Sea pigs cannot survive outside of water. If outside of water, they will collapse, taking 2♥ of suffocation damage every second after 2 seconds.

Players can pick up sea pigs with a water bucket, giving them a bucket of sea pig. Sea pigs placed with buckets do not despawn naturally. When a bucket of sea pig is used against a block, it empties the bucket, placing water with that sea pig in it.

As inhabitants of the Abyssal Chasm, sea pigs do not sink in muck.

Trivia

  • The Cave Compendium entry for the sea pig is rather inaccurate - many of the items listed as digestion drops cannot actually be obtained in this manner, with Sea Glass Shards being a major example.
  • Sea pigs are classified as "deep sea creatures" - they are functionally very similar to underground aquatic animals like the Glow Squid, but can only spawn in the Abyssal Chasm.
